Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Answers to common questions about Ora Mana and Direct Primary Care.

What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership-based approach to healthcare that allows patients to work directly with their physician without billing insurance for routine primary care services.

Do you accept insurance?

Ora Mana does not bill insurance. Membership fees are paid directly to the practice. Insurance may still be used for medications, specialist visits, laboratory testing, imaging, emergency care, and hospitalization.

Ora Mana does not currently participate in Medicare or Medicaid (Med-QUEST). Patients covered by these programs who are interested in joining are welcome to contact us to be added to a waitlist should participation options change in the future.

What does membership include?

Membership includes direct communication with your physician, telehealth visits, care coordination, and home visits by arrangement when appropriate.

Who can become a patient?

Ora Mana welcomes patients ages 3 and older residing in Hawaiʻi who can participate in telehealth visits and, when appropriate, home visits.

Do you offer home visits?

Yes. Home visits are available by arrangement in Hilo and surrounding communities when medically appropriate.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Many concerns can be addressed through secure telehealth visits from the comfort of your home.

What conditions do you treat?

Ora Mana provides general primary care including preventive care, chronic disease management, acute illnesses, medication management, mood and sleep concerns, and lifestyle counseling.

What if I need laboratory tests or imaging?

Laboratory testing and imaging can be coordinated when needed. These services are generally billed separately by the facility providing them.

What if I need a specialist?

Referrals can be arranged when specialty care is needed. Ora Mana remains involved in coordinating your care and reviewing recommendations.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

Beginning in 2026, many patients may be able to use HSA funds to pay for qualifying Direct Primary Care memberships. Eligibility and reimbursement rules can vary depending on your specific plan. We recommend checking with your HSA/FSA administrator or tax advisor regarding your individual situation.
